We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help you feel fully prepared and confident about your experience.
This retreat is designed for artists who want to deepen their connection to painting through direct observation in nature. It is best suited for intermediate to experienced painters, though dedicated beginners with basic drawing or painting experience are also welcome.
The focus of the retreat is plein air painting — working outdoors directly from life. You’ll explore light, atmosphere, color relationships, and composition within natural environments.
Once you are enrolled, you will receive a detailed materials list from the instructor, including recommended supplies, surfaces, and helpful preparation tips so you can arrive confidently and ready to paint.
No, flights to and from Puerto Rico are not included. Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel, and we are happy to provide guidance if helpful.
Yes. Airport pickup and drop-off are included, along with transportation to all painting locations throughout the retreat, so you can focus fully on your painting experience.
Daily breakfast, packed lunches during painting excursions, and evening dinners prepared by a private chef are included. The retreat also includes one special restaurant experience to enjoy local cuisine together.
Participants stay in private casitas with private bathrooms, along with access to shared spaces such as the pool and inviting communal areas designed for relaxation and connection.
Puerto Rico offers warm daytime temperatures year-round. Evenings may feel cooler due to the elevation near the rainforest, so bringing a light layer is recommended.
Single Artist: $4,000
Couple: $6,000
A $1000 deposit reserves your place which becomes non-refundable after 72 - hours. We ask that you pay the remaining balance by November 1st, 2026.
Additional Terms
Cancellation Policy:
Payments (except deposits) are refundable up until 30 days before the retreat start date.
The remaining balance must be paid in full no later than December 5th, 2026. Any reservation not paid in full by this date may be released.
Once full payment has been received by December 5th, 2026, all payments are non-refundable.
If you are unable to attend after your reservation has been paid in full, your payment may be transferred to a future Wild Canvas Retreat, (or to another party for this retreat only subject to availability) rather than forfeited. If the future retreat is priced higher, you will only be responsible for paying the difference in price. If you are a couple and one of the people in your party can not make it, you are aloud to bring along someone else in their place upon an approved application, if you are unable to provide an approved replacement for your absent partner, you are still welcome to attend the retreat. Partial refunds are not available within 31 days of the retreat. Requests made more than 31 days before the retreat may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of The Wild Canvas Retreat.
Beacuse The Wild Canvas Retreat is an intimate experience limited to just 12 participants, each reservation represents a significant portion of the retreat. Your payment allows us to secure accommodations, instructiors, transportation, meals, and personalized welcome gifts months in advance, ensuring an exceptional experience for every guest.
The deposit becomes non-refundable after the 72 hour cancellation period. If you are unable to attend, your paid reservation deposit may be transferred to a future Wild Canvas Retreat (subject to availability).
If you cancel more than 30 days before the retreat begins, all payments made beyond the non-refundable deposit will be refunded.
Within 30 days of the retreat, all payments become non-refundable.
Travel insurance is not included. Since the retreat has a no-refund policy, we recommend purchasing travel insurance to help protect your investment in the event of unexpected circumstances.
Prior plein air experience is not required. While some basic painting experience is helpful, the retreat is designed to support artists at different stages of their development.
Yes. Each day includes structured painting sessions, with evenings reserved for rest, relaxation, and time to enjoy the surroundings at your own pace.
