I am a meteorologist, and I love watching the weather. The Weather Observer started out as a barograph, a beautiful trace of recent atmospheric pressure. I appreciate how old and valuable the barometer is as an observation and weather forecasting tool. I wanted to make my own barograph to observe changes in air pressure. The Weather Observer has a small electronic sensor that accurately measures air pressure, then computer coding gets data from the sensor and displays it on a graph. Below are images from when the coding and displays were first being developed.
Once the barograph plotted, I wanted to add local wind speed and direction. Plans were expanded to include observations from ocean buoys, local radar and satellite images, and a couple of weather maps. The focus has always been on observing the weather that's interesting, even if it's far away.
