Throughout history musicians constrained by their available resources have often used great ingenuity to make, maintain and repair their instruments and bows. The results are referred to as American Folk Art or “violin shaped objects,” and include cigar box fiddles and cornstalk bows, to name a few.
Join us for the Tomato Can Fiddle Challenge, in which teams will work together to create a four stringed, bowed instrument that must be tuned to fifths and playable. You will have 90 minutes to create your masterpiece with the materials supplied, and a panel of judges will pick the winner and will award superlatives. Audience participation is encouraged for support. Heckling is encouraged for laughs.
Open to convention attendees with a badge.

We hope to continue giving at this level with help from members like you.
