Puncture wounds from sharp contaminated object i.e. broken glass or needle stick
Blood splashing onto the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, and mouth

Sexual contact
Sharing hypodermic needles
Mother to child in utero or via breast milk
Exposure can be caused through direct contact or indirect contact i.e. counter top, bedding, or clothing
