• Most Common Occupational Transmission

  • Puncture wounds from sharp contaminated object i.e. broken glass or needle stick

  • Blood splashing onto the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, and mouth

• Common Non-Occupational Transmission

  • Sexual contact

  • Sharing hypodermic needles

  • Mother to child in utero or via breast milk

• Exposure can be caused through direct contact or indirect contact i.e. counter top, bedding, or clothing
