During this trying time in which we are navigating new territory as educators we need to take a moment to think about our students and how they are feeling. In an effort to remain engaged with my students we have two virtual class meetings each school-day using Zoom. This has not only been great for checking in with the students and helping them with their learning but a chance for the students to communicate and socialize with each other.
Just as we educators are navigating new waters, our students too are feeling the stress and maybe excitement of learning at home. As part of our class meeting I choose a few students to share their "temperature" with the other students. I do not limit it to their feelings about any specific topic or moment. This is a time for them to think about their own feelings and possibly relate to the feelings of other students. I share the images that is below for them to identify their temperature. They can tell us the number, color, ore words that indicate what they are feeling and if they are feeling up to explaining they can do so.
Give your students a voice. As the teacher, you can also share your own temperature as a model for them. Fee free to use the image below. In addition, here is a copy link for you if you would like to alter the file to suit your own needs. Enjoy!
