Over the past few years, I have had the privilege of being a teacher mentor to novice teachers. This allowed me the opportunity to learn to assist in various ways. Teachers I've assisted have come to me at all levels....teach savy, newest of the new, old school, or willing to accept help. All level are interesting and exciting to assist.
My newest opportunity is attending the Louisiana Teacher Leader Summit. I'm looking forward to this opportunity and anxious the be introduced to the information that will be presented. This will be that much more for me to bring back to my school and district.
Being a mentor at a Title I public school opens me up to various resources that the state and federal government provide. There are grant opportunities and funding opportunities available to get our students where they need to be according to their grade level.
Below, I will list a few resources I've brought teachers attention to in order to assist them in their classrooms.
I hope you enjoy and find these useful.

The best advise I received as a new teacher, and the advice I give other teachers is to borrow/steal ideas from experienced teachers. Yes, I said steal. This is a way of life for teachers. If something is working for one, why not try it and save your sanity? If you know someone with excellent classroom management, phenomenal lesson delivery, or pure excitement in the classroom from beginning to end, you best believe I'd visit that class. This is what makes us better and stronger teachers. We shouldn't let our pride in the way, and accept help or constructive criticism. This does nothing that makes us as teachers that much better.
Contact your local news channels for grant opportunities. I received a grant from a local news station for Science kits. My 3rd grade class received $500 worth of Science materials to implement the New Generation Science Standards. The kits are amazing and the kids absolutely love them. It allows them to put Science in action and provides such a wonderful experience.
The Quality Science & Mathematics Grant Program (QSM) provides materials and equipment to MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS. Grants for approved materials and equipment will be awarded on a competitive basis to individual classroom teachers to use in providing standards-based instruction to help meet state accountability goals.
Target Field Trip Grant: Some of the best learning opportunities happen outside the classroom. Target funds field trips for students to bring them to places they may never be able to visit otherwise. The grant offers $700 to teachers and students. Incredible opportunity!
