Welcome to
The Teacher AI Toolbox
The Teacher AI Toolbox
This project has two key goals:
To educate secondary school teachers on the fundamentals of AI, and
To support its educational applications, particularly through chatbots.
Developed in response to the rapid rise of generative AI tools in education, this website was created to help educators transmit this knowledge to students, ensuring they use AI responsibly and productively. It is intended to serve as a practical and supportive resource where teachers can learn about AI, integrate it into their classrooms, and guide students in its ethical and effective use.
The toolbox draws on the UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Teachers, which emphasises a human-centred, ethical, and pedagogically sound approach to AI in education (UNESCO, 2024c).
While this resource supports AI education in secondary schools, it does not explicitly incorporate the principles of the BC K–12 Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST) curriculum. This is because the site is designed as a professional learning tool for teachers, rather than a student-facing curriculum guide. Educators are encouraged to adapt and align the content with the learning standards and curriculum requirements of their own province or educational context.
Guided by Turvey and Pachler’s (2016) Problem Spaces framework, the project recognises that learning technologies present both opportunities and challenges in education. The Teacher AI Toolbox responds to the three central areas they identify: pedagogy and learning design, teacher professional development, and the convergence of digital cultures. Through this lens, the site promotes reflective, critical practice and supports educators as active participants in shaping the ethical and meaningful integration of AI in teaching and learning.
To learn about how this project was created and why, start here by checking out our User Guide with the button below. For more advanced users, feel free to navigate our resources using the drop-down navigation bar on the top left.
This website is divided into three main sections:
Phase 1 - Information on how AI works
Phase 2 - The uses and challenges of AI in Education
Phase 3 - Resources for teaching students in a secondary school setting
Depending on your level of familiarity with AI, you may choose to explore different sections as needed. If you are new to AI, we recommend starting with "Learn How AI Works".
What AI is, how Large Language Models (LLMs) function, the concept of AI bias, and ethical AI use.
