HISTORY OF ANDARAYAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL AND THE SUPREMO 

The Andarayan National High School formerly called Andarayan Barrio High School as a learning institution has been directly serving its residents in the field of education.

This school was founded in order to serve the barrio folks who could hardly send their children to school especially those who are from far flung barangays.

The late civic-spirited Teodora Lingan Marallag for her ardent desire to give proper education for the residents put up the Andarayan High School believing that elementary graduates of the neighboring barangays could hardly be sent to other places to pursue secondary education. Considering the present economic condition of the place, the parents find difficulty in sending their children to school due to the exorbitant prices of the prime commodities and high rental of boarding houses for accommodation.

Tracing its growth, Andarayan High School has its first year of operation in 1987 with forty enrollees under the tutelage of three teachers which were housed in the elementary school of Andarayan. The school had its first graduation exercises in 1971 with only fourteen graduates.

Historically, the teachers and the students then, met sorts of problems and difficulties due to the physical condition of the school and the scarcity of books and teaching aids for desirable and meaningful teaching and learning set up.

However, Mrs. Marallag with the collective efforts of the teachers and the barangay officials through the leadership of the then barangay captain Juan Abogado through thick and thin raised funds to put up additional classrooms to meet the increasing population of the school. As an output of said fund raising, a two-storey building was constructed. The improvement of the school went on till the foundress died two years before her retirement.

Mrs. Virginia P. Maestre took over and continued the plans of the deceased foundress. Mrs. Maestre left the school in 1977 when she was promoted to district supervisor.

Miss Concepcion Mallonga, the elementary school principal that time, took over and sustained the growth of the school from 1977 to 1980. She also left the school when she went abroad.

From 1980, Mrs. Milagros S. Ubiña a secondary school head teacher that time, took over. Mrs. Ubiña was also promoted to Secondary School Principal | in 1983. With proper management and supervision, the school started receiving awards from the different levels of competitions academic and non academic as well.

The fame and glory of the school was heightened when the principal received THE 1989 DECS AVON Gintong ilawan Award, Sponsored by Teodora Alonzo Educators' Award. Foundation.

On June 28, 1988, the school through the leadership of the incumbent principal and Barangay Captain Leonito Ubiña assisted by the barangay councilman of Andarayan North and South purchased a 9.116 square meters lot through fund raising amounting to Php 23,000.00 which was redeemed from the rural bank of Solana. It is in this lot where the two classroom building was initially constructed as an extension and was occupied by the fourth year classes in 1990.

It was noted that it was in this year that the enrolment increased due to the implementation of the Free Secondary Education Program.

To meet the alarming increase of the school's population, school buildings were constructed through the initiative of Mrs. Milagros S. Ubiña. This tangible physical growth and development spells the mobilization of all year levels from the old site.

On June 11, 1991. Andarayan High School moved into its new site. Classes in the different year levels were distributed to the newly restructured classroom. At the same time the Center for Students and Co-Curricular Affairs headed by Late Mr. Dante Blancad in order to further facilitate co-curricular work of student councils in the country and mold them to be better leaders. 

A year after, due to sudden increase on the number of enrollee classrooms became congested. Again endless efforts were solicited for the purchased of an additional lot. On February 27, 1992 an additional lot was purchased with an area of 1,251 sq. meters amounting Php 15,000.00 which came from the proceeds of the fund raising. Said lot is where the SEDP package building was constructed. 

In 2003, the Supreme Pupil Government were institutionalized with Mr. Dante Blancad as SPG adviser and it was renamed Supreme Secondary Government with Ms. Dories Apostol as SSG Adviser from 2010 - 2021. The SSG of ANHS joins in National Learners Convergence in Cebu during 2021. Later on after the retirement of Mrs. Apostol, Mr. John Michael Bassig replaced her as adviser. From the Supreme Secondary Government it changed  Supreme Secondary Learner Government in 2021 to present. The SSLG organization stand out as consistent Most Active Organization of Andarayan National High School.

Now Andarayan National High School has more than a thousand population, relatively increasing number of competent and efficient teaching and non teaching personnel. Still hopeful, maintaining its chemistry of oneness, ANHS will continue its journey toward excellence.
