The roots of Thespian's Theatre began back in 2005 and 2006 with the then current OMSPA board. Spearheaded by 2 parents who would fill the Fine Arts chair position for about 2 years, a Middle School Theatre program was developed. I joined the program in January 2006 as a student teacher with Dr. Kirsten Pardun- Johannsen (Mrs. PJ) and was hired in my own right for the Fall 2007 production to be the assistant director for Mr. Monte Mason. Over the next 10 years, the program would grow to serve over 200 students (about 33% of the school population) in the course of a year. In the spring of 2017, OMSPA ended its support of a theatre progam at the middle school, spurring the creation of Thespian's Theatre.

The founding principles that our program began with, are still the same today. Inclusion, high standards and expectations, personal growth and skill attainment, student centered, and student created. While how we get there changes from year to year, we still work towards these principles. While they are not common in today's world of Children's/Middle School theatre, we hold true to these ideals, and hope you do too! While a flashy performance is always exciting, there is no substitute for the opportunity to show off what you do YOURSELF- not what somebody else does for you. Sometimes the outward picture isn't always pretty, in fact it is sometimes very messy, but from that experience there is the opourtunity for the artists to step back and say, here's where I made my mistake or even, "Wow! That was harder than it looked- these other artists makes it look so easy". Both of which are valuable learning moments that only experience can create, and is often lost in today's digital "do it for me- right now" world.
