The Self Made Project currently conducts online sessions via Zoom for students of all year levels up to Year 10; VCE sessions can be arranged upon request if there are volunteer tutors available to do so. Our sessions run in the format of a homework club where all participants meet in a central, main room; all students are then separated into breakout rooms with their respective volunteer tutors where their sessions will commence.
The Self Made Project runs weekly sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. However, students are most welcome to leave the meeting once their individual session is completed. In the case that students are unavailable on those days, they will be given an opportunity to arrange an independent session with their assigned tutor. Please note that it is recommended that students bring in work provided by their school or their guardian. The Self Made Project does not provide a set curriculum as we recognise that each student has diverse learning needs.
Currently, The Self Made Project is looking to take a more holistic approach with our sessions. Whilst we still aim to help students with their academic goals, we acknowledge that a huge part of student success is helping them gain important life skills and become confident individuals. Through adding a strong focus on mentoring and overall student well-being, we hope to be able to expand the positive impact that The Self Made Project has on students. We have loved seeing our volunteers and students build connections that go beyond tutoring alone, and as an organisation we want to focus on the positive impacts that these mentoring relationships provide.
