The SCALE Project is an entirely student-run organization that was founded in 2017 by Sophie Logan. SCALE started with conversations with faculty and staff about equity and transparency and since has evolved to also providing resources directly to students. Thanks to previous SCALE co-presidents: Sophie Logan ('19), Duhita Das ('21), Mayim Frieden ('22), Sarah Seager ('24), and Emily Joachim ('24).
Today our work is two-fold: (1) working with upper-level administration to encourage equitable changes and transparency in a timely manner and (2) providing temporary resources directly to students while administrative changes are in progress. We feel that it is important that there is an organization for low-income and first generation students that is not connected to the administration so that we can adequately fight for the distribution and redistribution of resources and funds where they are otherwise absent and overlooked.
McKenna Reeves (‘26) is a junior studying biology with a concentration in global public health. They started working with SCALE in March of 2023 and have since focused working on guides like Not Rich at Bard and the first-gen resource guide, the accessibility of various SCALE resources, and will be continuing with the book program, summer storage, and resource fairs.
Estefany Lara (26) is a senior studying Philosophy and Latin American & Iberian Studies. Her work with Scale started in December 2023, with a current focus on Resource fairs, Resource documents, SIEA, and assisting with admin, staff, and faculty conversations. Her interests include immigration advocacy, socio-economic justice, education, and intersectional practices.
