Whatsapp Community

In our early beginnings, we had a WhatsApp group where everyone could post anything they wanted. This arrangement worked well until we grew to over 400 people, and it became unsustainable. Numerous topics were brought up, such as meeting up for a beer, attending a festival together, seeking help with telcom companies, selling surfboards, adopting kittens, organizing parties... Naturally, not all users were interested in receiving every message.

Fortunately, WhatsApp introduced a new feature called Communities, allowing members to join only the groups that align with their interests. Additionally, there's a designated channel for important announcements where only admins can post. How beneficial is this?

What are the groups in the community about?

Groups will be added gradually as interest is shown (members can suggest new groups). Here are some of the existing community groups:

• Housing (Find apartments, rooms and potential flatmates)

• Thursday Panda Meetings in Bidassoa Taproom

• Hangouts

• Sports and hiking

• Second hand buy, sell and give away

• Languages Exchages

• Family plans

• Dog walks & animal lovers

• Jobs and careers

How can I join?

There's two ways you can join:

• Fill in this form.

• Show up in one of our meetups and ask the host.

What are the rules?

• No SPAMming: You can promote your business, but only if you're an active member in other conversations, if your promotion fits the group's theme, and if you don't overdo it.

• Check Group Descriptions: Read the group descriptions before joining any.

• English & Spanish Language: Please write in either English (preferably) or Spanish, as they are the most spoken languages. Most people speak fluent English, and a significant percentage are fluent in Spanish. If you don't understand a message, please ask for a translation or look it up online. 

• Be Kind: Treat everyone with respect.

Sidenote: No worries! Mistakes happen, and nothing will happen if you accidentally forget to follow the rules. However, if this behavior becomes repetitive, we may need to remove the membership to the community.
