About The Readery

The Readery began in August 2025 as a little bookstore on wheels, built on a simple belief: everyone deserves access to great books.

For a year, our mobile bookstore traveled throughout Altus and the surrounding communities, bringing a thoughtfully curated selection of previously owned books, new books, and bookish treasures directly to readers. Our preowned books have always been priced below retail, because we believe discovering your next great read shouldn't have to break the bank.

That little trailer became so much more than a bookstore. It became a way for us to meet readers, make new friends, support local events and small businesses, and build a community around our shared love of books. We watched customers trade in books they'd finished, discover authors they'd never read before, find unexpected treasures, and return again and again for their next story.

In August 2026, after a year on the road, we closed the chapter on our mobile bookstore and began an exciting new one.

In September 2026, The Readery opened the doors to its first permanent home—a 2,200-square-foot cozy community bookstore in Altus, Oklahoma. 🏡📚

Our new space gives us room to do everything we dreamed of when we started: fill more shelves with affordable preowned and new books, offer bookish gifts and unique finds, serve our signature dirty sodas, and create a welcoming place where readers can actually stay awhile.

Come browse the shelves, grab a drink, settle into a cozy corner with a book, bring your laptop to study, meet a friend, or join us for a book club, workshop, release party, or seasonal event. We even welcome local book clubs and small gatherings in our space.

Because The Readery has always been about more than selling books.

It's about creating a place where readers feel welcome, stories find new homes, and our community can gather.
