Restored Square Grand
Repairing a Reed Organ
Tuning: Basic fee $90
Tuning takes about an hour and a half on average. It depends on how out of tune the instrument is. If a piano has not been tuned for many years, or has been subjected to a lot of fluctuations in humidity it can sink in its overall pitch. The note A above middle C should vibrate 440 times per second vps. If, for instance your piano is way out of tune this note might be down to 420 or 415 vps which is the note A flat. So if uncle Tony brought his accordion to play along with you, his hair would stand on end (if he's got any!). The tuner in such a case needs to first do a "pitch raise", a very quick tune to get things back up in the ball park. Then he or she follows up with a fine tuning. I usually charge half price for the pitch raise.
Minor repairs $40.00 per hour
Sticking keys, missing notes, broken strings, noisy pedals. Lots of things can go wrong with your piano. Most can be taken care of in the home. I break this hourly fee down to 15 minute segments - $10.00 - etc.
Piano Life Saver Humidity Control Systems $500.00
I can install a line of very effective humidity control systems by Dampp-Chaser which adds moisture below or within the piano during the dry seasons and drives out the moisture in the damp seasons. The price is an average as there are about 6 different configurations, pricing from $250 to $700.
Reed Organ Servicing and Repair $40.00 per hour
I love to work on these vintage instruments, but my shop facilities are limited. The $30 is per hour and problems and solutions vary a lot. I will look it over for free and give you my best estimate!
