I already had a look at this related question, which covers changing the BFB icon in older versions of Unity. But the information there is probably dated, and does not entirely cover what I'm planning on doing in my theme.

I want to create an Ubuntu 15.10-compatible Unity 7 theme which mimics the current look of Unity 8 (used in Ubuntu Touch) as closely as possible. I'm now satisfied with how all the launcher buttons look, except for the BFB. Changing the icon inside the BFB itself should not pose a problem, but as you can see below the BFB background itself is differently-shaped from the other icons:

The Ubuntu Wiki's guide to theming Unity 7 explains how to create the background images for the launcher icons in general, but does not give any indication for whether it is possible to theme the BFB background separately. Does anyone know if this is possible to do in Unity 7, or is the BFB internal icon the only part that can be changed?

With Unity 7 from Ubuntu 13.04 and up, the Dash Button (also known as BFB in short of "Big Freakin Button") and other icon buttons on the launcher were unified to use the same theming assets. So, when you follow Unity Theming guide to theme the launcher icon buttons on Ubuntu 14.04LTS or up, you theme the Dash Button/BFB along with it.

Make a 128x128 png image with any icon you like and add your preferred background too to the same png. The default 'Circle of Friends' Whirlwind logo in Dash Button is located here: /usr/share/unity/icons/launcher_bfb.png. Replace it with the png image you made and then restart Unity. There are some disadvantages with this workaround though:

However, on some themes (e.g Arc-s & Adwaita) the coloring is just non-existent, so I tried the methods here (for a local launcher) and here (for the launcher in /usr/...) in order to change it to Greybird theme.

Here is the local launcher I created (I tried spelling greybird with a lowercase 'g' as well, I made sure it looks how it want if I change the main theme itself to Greybird in the Appearence Setting):

Safe mode without disabling themes did not work but worked with all plugins. This lead me to disable the Topics Thumbnail theme component and then everything started working again. I am using the Graceful theme.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Android 5.1.1. I installed Google Now Launcher then I installed a theme from Samsung theme store, which replaced the default icons. After removing the theme and the launcher, I came back to Google Now, and although the theme was removed, the same Icons remain, even with default theme. Tried countless reinstalls of Google now launcher, but still no results.

Fyi for anyone googling this or looking for this still. I had my s7 edge display scaling set to condensed to fit more on the screen. Once I changed it back to standard (with the material Samsung theme applied) and rebooted the correct icons appeared. Could be that the change forces the launcher to recreate icons or clear it's cache etc.

Also, stock android lovers, install good lock from the galaxy app stores to bring the stock android notification shade and status bar into your s7. Got a very stock feel now with Samsung material theme, Google now launcher and good lock.

I have the same issue on my Galaxy S7. It's a compatibility issue with using the 3rd party launcher. If I do a soft reset (vol down + power key) some of the icons will reset (the phone, contacts, and some of my apps). The only ways I have found of changing all the icons back to the default is by doing a factory reset. I have spoken with Samsung support and it doesn't sound like there is any willingness to correct this issue.

I fixed it I had same problem! Search apps.. find Google now launcher app on your phone. (I forgot i downloaded it) click it, then choose TouchWiz, bam fixed. My icons were also messed up when trying to switch back to default theme they wouldn't switch back to the default icons so the way I did that was find easy mode, apply easy mode under "personal" in settings, go back again after applying easy mode and apply standard mode. All icons will be restored to default.

Google App seems to cache the icons used when first setting it up. Go to Settings-Apps, find it and clear launcher data. It will reset your homescreen layout but will not mess with other Google data such as search preferences.

Why there is no mute button in the laucher so i don't need to suffer from that super loud music every time i launch the game? It's super loud compared to my the in-game Sound settings. Not to mention that i want to vomit from the same theme chords over and over again ?. Just make a button so i can mute all the sounds in the laucnher or add an option to +/- the volume of those. Same thing with the log-in screen. Cheers to musicians and singers but it's to repetitive. I'm begging you to add mute button.?

I am using launcher 3 source code in android. I want to change the icon background color and theme only on launcher screen but i don't know where should i change for my required issue. i go through from almost the whole code but not getting any single clue. can you help me for solving this problem. I am using launcher 3 code from here.link

I am trying to increase the launcher-button padding on Xubuntu 18.10 where with GTK2 version of the panel is done by changing the "xthickness" and "ythickness" values however I can't seem to make it work with Xfce's GTK3 panel.

Thanks!! Adding the following at the very bottom of the gtk-contained.css file appears to work and gets exactly the result I wanted to get This can be used with all GTk3.x themes if you edit the correct CSS file.

Absolutely beautiful, it even affects the notification buttons on the right which is what I wanted and lIke you said, it affects all buttons (including the taskbar buttons). Now I can make my panel look identical and nicely spaced as with the GTK2.x version Looks beautiful especially if you apply a squared or a rounded icon theme!

In addition to the aforementioned, I noticed that "padding" does work with the Arc theme so it looks like the issues I had are to do with the Greybird theme specifically but nonetheless, the scale property does exactly what I wanted.

Update:

Meta key fixed after reassigning launcher shortcut to Alt+F1. Now launcher is opening with both meta key and Alt+F1. Method:activateLauncherMenu in qdbusviewer is also working fine (I have undo changes in kwin config and have reconfigured it).

Under some circumstances Albert launcher does not show the icons correctly. Either the system theme is not picked up or the icons are simply empty. What should I do to let Albert display the icons correctly?

Further make sure that Qt has the correct icon theme set. Check stdout. Albert prints the icon theme on start. This is not a problem of Albert in particular, but of all Qt applications. This is a common problem and the internet provides solutions to the tons of possible reasons. Two mainstream options: Get Qt to inherit the GTK icon theme or use qt5ct to configure Qt.
