Spiking a volleyball entails forcefully striking the ball toward the floor on your opponent's side of the net. You wait for the setter to set the ball near the net, then approach the ball, jump, and go in for the "kill." If the ball hits the floor before the other team can retrieve it, your team gets a point. After learning the fundamentals of spiking, practice alternate approaches and work on increasing the power of your spikes.

Nishikawa is basically a high risk high reward player. It takes awhile to learn him but once you get used to his ability, he's a beast. His ability allows you to Boom Jump and hit really strong spikes. You have to time it well enough for it to work. When your spikes reaches above 4m, you can trigger his Thunder Spike that will almost guarantee a score. Serving with Nishikawa helps you trigger that ability easier so mastering his serves will score you a lot of points against the enemy team.

Defensive basically lets Nishikawa spike more for his team but since he has amazing jump stats and is really tall, higher and higher is also a great alternative depending on your playstyle. Max out Attack, and Jump so you can trigger his 4m Thunder Spike and Speed or Defense depending on you.

Defensive or Careful are again two safe choices as they let you spike more for your team. Play it safe during the early rounds. Once the enemy team scores 6 points you unlock Boom Jump too so that should help you start getting points for your team. Maxing out Attack, Jump and Speed are both good for him since you'll have a few points left to invest in Defense.

Defensive or Careful are both good for Yongsub since Higher and Higher mostly takes advantage of really tall players. Defensive allows you to spike a lot and Careful is a good balance between quicks and four sets. Max out his Attack and Jump as much as you can and focus on Speed next or Defense depending on you.

After this tutorial, the main menu popped up showing me the games multiple modes, even better as I spotted both Men and women were available as an option for all modes. Something I think more team sport games are trying to implement now (and about time too!)

In Nintendo Switch Sports volleyball, you need to return the ball to the other side while working with your teammate to set up shots. To earn a point, hit the ball to the ground on your opponent's side.

the game will automatically swap you and your teammate between positions. The player in the front by the net will have the opportunity to Block. If they fail, the player in the back will Bump, passing the ball to the person in front. The person in the front will then Set the ball for the player in back, who will attempt to Spike the ball to the other side. To win a match of volleyball, score five points.

There are five "moves" you can perform in volleyball. The move you can perform depends on your current position, making it one of the more complicated games in Nintendo Switch Sports. These controls are performed while the Joy-Con is in a neutral position - while it's pointed at the TV screen - and with both hands positioned beneath the Joy-Con, with thumbs on top. (Though, you can also play with a single hand.)

When we are trying to learn how to spike a volleyball, we commonly forget about the first two contacts. Whenever you're trying to get better at spiking in volleyball, make sure approach it with the mindset that you need to pass and set at a very high level. There's really no point in trying to master your attacking if you can't control the first two touches.

If you're looking for some more advice on passing or setting, make sure that you refer to our passing or setting blogs. Those will give you crucial volleyball tips that can fast-forward you to the next level.

If you want to take our online beach volleyball course and have direct access to live Q and A sessions with our awesome coaches, check out our attacking course here and learn how to spike a volleyball step by step.

With that four step approach, you are going to want to create as much distance between you and the net as you can. One common theme that we see as volleyball coaches is that after somebody passes, they tend to run up to the net to start their approach very, very close to the net. By doing this you are eliminating your momentum which is something we want to avoid. By keeping your distance from the net, you will not only allow your momentum to aid your swing, but you will also allow the ball to be in front of you at all times.

If I do not allow this to happen and I get out to this sideline, then my attacks are going to start to look like I'm reaching for a ball inside. If you've ever found yourself in trouble on the right side of the court, this is probably the reason. You're not setting yourself up for success. When we drift to this sideline, we end up having to reach for volleyballs inside of us because it's hard for setters to push the ball to our hitting shoulder. If you are reaching inside, then it is almost impossible for you to hit the ball hard line.

Some players have a hard time adjusting to bad sets when they are spiking. It's never easy having a setter who can't locate the ball but luckily we have a drill to improve the last two steps of your spike approach.

The drill focuses on feet to ball. For the most part, at our classes and private lessons at Better at Beach - VolleyCamp Hermosa in Los Angeles, California, we like to practice full skills. Before this drill and afterwards, you should pass, set, hit over the volleyball net and then look to see where you took off from and where you landed.

I also like to use the drill shown down below to help the players understand the importance of the 2nd step in a four step approach (1st step if you teach a 3 step approach). Alex and Julia only started playing a few months ago so its important for them to understand these concepts early.

Don't spend very long doing this because it doesn't incorporate a ball which means it's not game-like and therefore not as valuable as a drill that includes spiking a volleyball but it IS a great way to help the players understand that they can change speed and direction DURING their approaches.

The most common, and fun, swing in beach volleyball is spiking hard cross. This free training video shows you how to master this vital attack move on the beach volleyball court. AVP pros Brandon Joyner and Mark Burik take you through every jump, step and swing so you can spike the volleyball high and hard.

The video that you're about to watch is an example of one of our online beach volleyball lessons from our attacking course. We have a lot of different lessons that are built into this course that will teach you all different types of attacking skills that we think you need in order to become the best attacker possible.

The most common attack in beach volleyball AND the most fun, is our hard cross hit. Whenever we're thinking about hitting hard cross, we're not trying to trick a defender into thinking we're doing something else. However, you're body position should allow you to hit every shot so that you don't get blocked. If the other team decides to run a bait and switch where the blocker dives angle you should be able to see that and easily change your wrist angle. You're body position and your approach should always allow you to spike hard anywhere on the court.

After you've gone through your four-step approach, and you're soaring through the air with your bow and arrow drawn, the next step is to follow through and swing at the ball. It's time to spike! But how do I hit a volleyball so I don't get blocked or dug consistently?

Right now, coaches spend their lives begging the hitters to stay off the net. That is due in large part to the tradition of hitting ON the net. Not only is this easier to block for any sized player, but it also makes for more ankle sprains and injuries when the set drifts too close to the net. The BEST way to learn to spike is to first hit 2-meter high balls from the 3-meter (aka 10-foot or back-row spike) line. You can have it set higher if you want (see the impact of higher sets elsewhere in this article), but you should start at the 3-meter line, then move closer as the practice and season develop.

Basically, the higher the set, compared to what you are used to, the sooner/faster you need to swing your arm to still hit it at full extension. Remember how hard this is. The volleyball spike is the ONLY action in sport where maximum effort is done unsupported every time. Basketball players do not take jump shots from 3/4 court every time. Baseball batters do not have to jump and swing to hit home runs. Volleyball is also the only sport where one maximum effort, jumping, is followed immediately by another max effort, spiking the ball. It takes a LOT of repetitions and good timing to hit that sweet spot every time.

When that error in ball/jump/hit means the ball is over their non-dominant shoulder, most players lean over to put the ball as much in front of their dominant shoulder as they can. The end result: they land on their opposite leg (left leg for a right-handed spiker in this predicament) and they too often injure that knee on landing. You need to have an ace up your sleeve and be able to roll shot or control a ball with your non-dominant hand. Practice this in short court warm-up games and hit some sets as well, so you can do it. This is NOT at full power, unless you get a lot of practice. It is with control. 006ab0faaa
