The pilot included a coalition-building effort in the community of San Antonio spearheaded by KLRN to bring together relevant service providers around the goal of supporting families and educators with critical resources and services.
KLRN cultivated a variety of partner relationships including Texas Rising Star , Texas School Ready Project, Children's Learning Institute, and Family Service San Antonio. Each conversation with these organizations built on the theme of braiding services across agencies to broaden the goal of supporting healthy kids.
In San Antonio, a coalition of organizations, ReadyKidSA, was formed in 2015. The United Way of San Antonio & Bexar County is the lead convener for the group; KLRN, along with more than 75 community partners (non-profits, school districts, service providers, foundations, and business leaders) convene on a quarterly basis to discuss early childhood programs and resources that will help us build a community that grows happy, healthy, and ready children. In May 2019, KLRN presented to the ReadyKidSA coalition and shared information about KLRN’s Learning Neighborhood to a group of 75+ adults representing more than 35+ community agencies. Not only is a diverse group of agency partners interested in what we learn, but many are interested in being involved.
A community Empathy Celebration event was produced by KLRN staff, in coordination with three community volunteer groups (Kohl’s, John Jay High School, and Junior League). Families from both the Play & Learn and the school & center pilot sites joined together to participate in a variety of activities for fun and learning. Learn more >>
