Introduction – Travellers in Time 

We are all travellers in time. We always have been. 

We are made from the 'stuff of stars' that is embedded deep in our very essence. The origin of the human DNA code stretches back to the beginnings of time. Back to an unimaginably distant past, before our solar system was even formed. 

And in just one lifetime, we witness ever increasing change - to ourselves, to others and most importantly to our environment. So much change that it can feel like we have suddenly arrived at a new place and time - a new reality that was totally unexpected. 

Understandably, we are all deeply involved in our day-to-day activities. Family events, new jobs, new buildings, new technologies and even new climates, can happen without us realising that we have travelled to that new place and time. 

The catastrophic climate changes and social turmoil of the early 21st century was evident to everybody. Around the world, billions of people were too poor, too weak or too oppressed to do anything other than struggle to try to keep themselves and their children alive. 

Many of the more well off either denied climate change was happening, said it wasn’t them causing it or just ignored it. A few felt that 'something had to be done' to save our dying planet Earth. Sadly, the majority of these were too busy consuming and didn't want to give up their relatively safe, comfortable lives. 

Enlightened individuals, in positions of great power and influence, had long since realised that time was running out – even for them. Humankind had become Earth’s worst invasive species – one with no natural predators. 

There were wide scale public attempts by the rich and powerful to use technology, social media and even legislation to improve matters. Despite the natural reduction in birth rates linked to better education and improved standards of living, it was clear to them that Earth was in decline and there was only one viable long-term solution. 

Their final hope was to create a globally funded mission to establish a new, sustainable human colony in space. One that might reach another viable planetary system - a mission that would take at least five hundred years to complete. 

The project was a jealously guarded secret, only a selected few from across the planet were involved in this 'Journey to Enlightenment' … 

Most of us didn't even know the true nature of our epic mission...
