The Big Plant

The former petrol station 'Big Dig' and planting project was put on hold last summer due to drought and the incredibly 'rock' hard soil.

Work has recently resumed to prepare the soil for planting and they'll make a call for volunteers to come and plant (no digging they promise) in April.

The winter lighting feature was very subtle but noticeable when you're up close but it will soon be removed as the evenings brighten earlier.

The large number of trucks following Metges Road are destroying both the Johnstown roundabout edge and now pot holes are appearing in the road.

A good clean is needed and a mix of seasonal and perennial perimeter planting would hugely improve and enhance it.

Flower baskets are again planned for April to October and if there's sponsorship they hope to double the number of display boxes to stretch the entire length of the bridge railings.

Only 8 of the 11 arches of Kilcarn Bridge spanning the Boyne River are from the original construction sometime in the later part of the 1500s. Closed to vehicles in the late 70's, closed for a few years after the storm damage in 2014, it is now only open to pedestrians.

We think it's ignored and it could be something special marking the entry to Navan. It's very dark especially in winter and wonder if there's opportunity for it to be lit as a feature ?

The river walk at the Ramparts and further east at BroadBoyne Bridge are wonderful all year round thanks largely to the work of the volunteers at the Ramparts.

It is a great family experience and we wonder if a riverside path could be created to either extend the fantastic Ramparts walk or Kilcarn Bridge and alongside the IDA land?
