It was a sad day on Metges Road when the avenue of trees that we have enjoyed for a decade was reduced by a further 200m.
From the 1.2km length 1/3rd of the tree line has now been removed from the eastern side between the Dublin Road and the Bailis Village Apartments.
A significantly noticeable gap has appeared in the tree line.
Residents are not Happy.
It was disappointing, albeit understandable, to see the tree line being removed in early September.
It makes way for the final section of the Cois Glaisin Estate new boundary wall with railing, footpath and cycle path to connect up with the junction at the Johnstown Village road.
In total 400m of the entire length of Metges Road eastern tree line has been cleared at Cois Glaisin.
It's not popular with the public to remove established trees and the green avenue effect along Metges Road has now gone forever. Hopefully something worthwhile will be planted along the new boundary wall.
Without wanting to jump to conclusions there would now appear to be a section interrupting the footpath and cycle path.
The tree line opposite the IDA entrance and shielding The Boyne estate from traffic appears to be the missing link in the cycle path.
The woodland at the site of the rejected apartment development has had a temporary reprieve but is under threat of future removal.
