Braving the weather and dark evenings the Taylors Chubby Chappies and Pink Ladies are into their 2nd month following the 8 week Operation Transformation program. Quite a crowd are attending the 7pm Mon to Fri group walks starting from Taylors Johnstown.
The weigh-ins take place Friday night and all eyes are on the group's tally. Will they beat last year's record weight loss?
Great to see them stand out in the darkness and to join in simply pop along one evening.

An investigation is underway into the robbery at Boylesports in the Johnstown Shopping Centre.
Reported by Meath Crime Prevention a single male raided the premise around 9:20 PM Thursday January 24th?
Our sympathy to the staff who have had a frightening experience.
We're very fortunate that these type of events are incredibly rare in the Johnstown area. The Athlumney Centre had incidents in 2016 at the former Spar shop and in 2009 at the former Ladbrokes.
Report any incidents to 999 and be a part of your Neighbourhood Watch.
Last November we asked for your suggestions and in mid January we had the pleasure of seeing the Taylors Walking Group, who are sponsoring the feature, switch on the Johnstown Tidy Towns roundabout light installation.
The lights are not too bright or they'll distract motorists and they'll only be there whilst the evenings are dark.
Hopefully this will inspire a sponsor to create something more spectacular for next Christmas.
A new local Facebook Page has formed about helping your mental health.
"As an ordinary person it is difficult to get the message out there and let people read & hear about the ordinary man or woman and what they have done to make improvements on their Mental Fitness.
The language around Mental Health needs to change to reflect a more positive approach to dealing with it. We can all work on our Mental Fitness we just need to find the program that works for YOU! "
The southern section of Metges Road opposite the Johnstown People's Park has been troublesome to cross for a number of years. 2 Years ago a petition was raised to bring attention to the speed of cars. With the significant rise in peak time traffic crossing the road to access the bus stops is proving more dangerous.
Cllr Sinead Burke recently joined the Taylor's Walking Group to see for herself the safety issues the group experience here and elsewhere along their local routes.
The walking group all wear Hi Vis clothing but most commuters wear dark clothing which on dark winter evenings creates a dangerous combination.
Taking the issue to Council level will hopefully see a proper crossing, perhaps lighting and signage, even a speed table to make the crossing safe.

We were delighted tonight to present our award to Denis Smith, Dane Smith, and Fiona McQuail of Smith's SuperValu in Johnstown."

After 1 month the newly formed Johnstown Kenpo Karate is gathering even more members.
As with all the activities within the St Stephens National School Hall it is very clear that there is a demand for activities within the local area that are actually within walking distance of residents homes.
A recent comment on the N.S.C.U. Facebook Group sparked renewed concerns over the state of the former gym. Litter is gathering near the pedestrian entrance to the Bailis Village apartments.
Johnstown Tidy Towns immediately called on Local Residents to help with the clean up.
The litter problem however raises questions without any long term solution.
Question 1
Who should do these regular clean ups? The owner, council, local residents or volunteers from the community?
Question 2
Now that the litter has been cleared up will those who created it return to the partially hidden hangout and will they immediately repeat the problem?
Were those broken beer bottles and litter actually keeping antisocial behaviour away from the Gym and Bailis Village entry?
Whilst we have a vacant derelict building we have a magnet for negative social issues. It's not just beer cans, bottles or simple sweet wrappers that form the litter.
Is there a better viable solution that does not require clean up volunteers or the taxpayer chasing their tails to provide a safe clean town?
