August Edition 2017
We're delighted to see that The Walterstown Ladies Gaelic for Mothers N Others are thriving since their early beginnings this year. We caught up with Sharon and Laura for a brief update.
On Saturday July 22nd the Walterstown Warriors had our very their first blitz which was held in Athlone GAA club.
Being a newly formed team mostly made up of mammies who have never played Gaelic before we didn't know quite what to expect but we certainly looked the part when we turned up to the club for the bus at 7 a.m.
Decked out in our club colours of black and pink we were the first team to arrive at the event in Athlone and we set up camp on our designated pitch.
G4M Haka ..... or warming up?
Team's managers are making important decisions.
Warming Up
We played 4 Matches of which we won 2, drew 1 and lost 1. There was great camaraderie between all clubs on the day. Unfortunately we did have a team member who was badly injured during the first match and that was awful for her and very scary for us to watch too. But being a trooper she insisted on staying put and cheering us on for the rest of the day.
Sideline encouragement.
Physio before the game ........... or just TLC ?
In case you were thinking that being on the side line was without any fun. We had a gazebo with us which we used as a canteen for the day and a small tent for a changing room and we had enough food made to feed every other team that was present on the day!
After the games.
Team and supporters.
We've bonded together really well considering some of us had never even met before. We had a fantastic day out representing the club and we also put just as much effort and energy into the post blitz celebrations on the bus on the way home. The driver was so impressed with our singing he said hes looking forward to bringing us to the National blitz which we will attend in Portmarnock in October. Our next event is a local blitz on August 12th at O'Mahonys in Navan and we hope to do really well.
A big thank you to Martin Curran who is our team sponsor and the owner of the Texaco garage near Garlow Cross
