Night at the Oskars

With so many groups and charities trying to raise money for their worthy cause it's no surprise to see more inventive and engaging activities taking place.

Last May we looked at the different 'FUNdraising' options involving some local groups and this is one of the first Clubs to entertain us with 'The Night at the Oskars'.

As the name suggests they're making films and rolling out the red carpet for a Gala Event.

What's involved?

"The Knightsbridge Hotel, in Trim, is booked for our Gala Red Carpet Event for hundreds of guests.

Rehearsals are taking place with volunteer actors recording shortened versions of key scenes from 7 well known movies and the filming is taking place locally.

The final productions will be shown on the Big Screen at the event night where votes will be cast for the usual 'Oscar's Awards' : Best Lead, Best Supporting Role, Best Producer, Best fundraiser....... etc"

Who's in it?

"Over 60 Navan Rugby Club Volunteers will engage in a battle of the silver screen to hopefully be adorned with the OsKaR for Best Actor 2018!

You'll recognise quite a few actors as local people and we're going to be mentioning them on our Facebook Page in the coming days so take a peak and help by sponsor those you may know and come to see them perform.

The vast majority have no previous experience or aspirations to appear on the Big Screen but it's not surprising to see that we have some strong characters among us who had hidden acting talents. Selecting the lead roles after the auditions night wasn't easy."

Why have such a large scale event?

"As a Club with over 650 players we realized that although teams of players and parents get to know each other they might not know people in any other age group, or indeed those who run the Club. These social events engage members and the Club becomes a closer family with new friendships and connections.

Our Strictly Scrum Dancing 2017 Event was timed to coincide with the last AIL 2C League Home game which drew in one of the largest supporting crowd for our Team. The fact we won secured a top spot and promotion into the AIL 2B which made it even more of an occasion with players and parents from every team having come to support them.

This year if we win 2 more games the event will coincide with a playoff final on the 28th April. If we're successful it means promotion to the AIL 2A with an even bigger crowd in support".

Why chose the Oskars?

Unlike the live personal performances for events such as Strictly Come Dancing, Singing or Stage Quizzes there's no requirement to perform on the actual night. This means we can have more members participate, rehearsals and filming take place days before the Gala Night so there's no performance nerves on the night. They can sit back, relax and enjoy the event..... hoping they'll win an 'Oskar' too!

We are working with Kevin Rowe Events, the leading OsKaR Event Manager in the country and rigorous training is currently underway for us in preparation for the performance of a lifetime!

Along with a high media profile, the films promise to be full of drama, glamour and excitement!"

This is after all a major fundraising event for Navan RFC as well as an opportunity to engage the local community in what promises to be a highly entertaining event.
