INSTITUTE OF ECONOMIC AFFAIRS (IEA)
I undertook the week-long Future Thought Leaders’ Programme at the Institute of Economic Affairs. It was great learning about a broad range of economic topics that I would not have otherwise had exposure to. My favourite part of the programme were the debates, in which I was able to work with other like-minded students on the topical issue of whether the Bank of England should continue raising interest rates. Thank you to all the staff and the speakers for creating such an inspiring programme.
J.P.MORGAN
I was successful in securing work experience at JP Morgan having gone through an extremely competitive application process. During the week, I listened to a variety of speakers who offered insights into their roles in the company, and we received overviews of the different sectors in the bank. We also got the opportunity to shadow apprentices and experience one of Europe’s largest trading floors in action. I benefitted greatly from the CV and interview skills sessions as well as the various networking opportunities. My highlight of the week were the presentations as I was able to develop my own public speaking skills as well as learn from others. I am thankful for the amazing opportunity and for all the staff for making such an insightful work experience programme.
KPMG
During my work experience at KPMG's head office in London, I had the opportunity to shadow the team and get an insight into tax consulting. Throughout my time there, I was able to immerse myself in their daily operations and witness firsthand the crucial role they play in the world of taxation. The opportunity to sit in on a client meeting, allowed me to observe how KPMG professionals not only provide expert tax advice, but also build strong relationships with their clients. I was able to see how theoretical knowledge I’ve gained from my studies translates into practical solutions for clients. Overall, my time at KPMG was inspiring and I am thankful that it provided me with a glimpse into the world of tax consulting.
