I attended the Eton Summer University Preparation Course (ESUPC) in July 2023. The ESUPC is only open to students at state schools and is designed to take students beyond the confines of the A level and IB syllabi; thereby creating a space for intellectual inspiration, interest and challenge, and providing a taste of university life at an academic and social level.
The Economics Course covered several aspects of Economics both within and outside of the curriculum. There were sessions on public policy, political economy, the philosophy of economics, deglobalisation and inequality. I was challenged with up-to-date concepts and theories relevant to the study of economics.
Content covered included:
- Public policy
- Political economy
- Philosophy of economics
- Deglobalisation
- Inequality
- Other key topics in Economics
I thoroughly enjoyed opening my mind to new Economics concepts as well as expanding my knowledge on areas that I am already familiar with. Furthermore, seeing the original works of John Maynard Keynes and a First Edition of the Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith was inspiring.
