Let's get familiar with the terms first 🧠
Hartog (2002, p233)
Start with the basics, you will peak in your continuous personal development when you are able to analyse and evaluate your every experience in order to create a better output every single time.
I have SO much to talk about here, but I will try and keep this sharp. Over the past 4 years I have worked towards my bachelor’s degree in human resource management and my associate level CIPD qualification. If you don’t know the CIPD profession map yet, let me introduce you and show you how I used this to support my development…
Here she is:

Okay so there are 3 core values that surround this map and let me break them down for you in terms of my own development:
principles-led – going beyond policy and process to do what’s right
For me: (challenge and push back, develop diversity, uni helped me develop emotional intelligence and ability to develop meaningful relationships i.e. interpersonal skills, volunteering to get started aka lifelong learning)
evidence-based – using a range of evidence and expertise to make decisions
For me: (being consistent and fair, using course feedback to drive improvements based off professional critique on my work, identifying change for next tasks)
outcomes-driven – focusing on work which creates value for people and organisations.
For me: ("so you can see why continuous improvement and reflection on what else can be done to improve is key", understanding employment law to make sure I can fully inform the company I work for on relevant changes and improvement for the people)
My Linked-In Journey:
This is important, building apersonal brand not pnly supports networking and building relationships with work colleagues amd recruiters, but its a professional diary and a way to stay connected with other professionals in your field of work. I began my journey in 2024 when i started my placement year.
💌 I made this template inspired by my own experience using Gibb's Reflective Cycle, with an element of Atkin and Murphy's Cyclical model to support a deeper level of personal reflection that Gibbs model arguably cannot offer. Try this yourself, be brave and challenge your own assumptions!
