The Hazlitt Society welcomes new or returning members at any time. Anyone is eligible to join. The Society was originally established with a public fundraising campaign to restore Hazlitt's memorial site in London, but now depends as a small voluntary author society on the ongoing generosity and support of members for its ongoing existence and activity. It receives no funding from other sources.
To join the Society is equivalent to subscribing to the Hazlitt Review: active members receive a copy of the journal and their membership/subscription fees are used primarily to cover the annual cost of publishing and distributing it, as well as the free annual lecture and any other activities. Another benefit for members with an active subscription is any back issue of the journal (where there are still physical copies available) sent gratis on request.
Members are added to an email list to receive an annual newsletter with details of the annual lecture and day-school and any other news and information of interest. (We will also sometimes cross-post the events of other literary societies to this mailing list, but sparingly, aware that unwanted email can be a nuisance.)
All memberships/subscriptions can be cancelled or refunded on request at any time.
Membership/subscription is £10 annually for UK members and £15/$20 for overseas members. Electronic payments (online banking, either one-off or standing order, or PayPal) are now preferred to cheques, please. New PayPal subscriptions can be set up using the button below, and will renew year to year. Single online banking payments or standing orders can be made to the Society’s account: sort code 30-98-77, account no. 03123262.
If you join/subscribe/renew by online banking, please email hazlittsociety@gmail.com to confirm the postal address for your copy of the Hazlitt Review (PayPal subscriptions automatically include a postal address). Please address any other membership queries to the same address. Thank you for your interest and support!
