Many accounts of hobs and the above stories in particular can be found in books on North York Moors folk lore and online. Details of hob folklore including the above tales, taken from people who apparently believed in them can be found in the works of Victorian vicar and antiquarian Canon Atkinson including Forty Years in a Moorland Parish (1891) and A Glossary of the Cleveland Dialect (1868). I am still trying to track down the accounts of Hob tales by Professor Phillips, Canon Atkinson refers to (See The Joy of the Bibliography for more on this). Here are a few examples (not comprehensive) of where it can be sourced, I have tried to link directly to the relevant web page on a site where possible.
Online Books-Full electronic copies are available for free online. I recommend the Internet Archive ones as references to hobs are scattered throughout his works and although I have linked directly to the main reference it is a good idea to use the search facility within the online book to find all the references. Here are the references from Forty Years in a Moorland Parish- Farndale Hob and Hart Hall Hob and a Glossary of the Cleveland Dialect-Hart Hall Hob
