Steps:

Traditional dorsal approach:

1. Clean site with alcohol swab

2. Insert the needle at the dorsal aspect of the finger at the level of the web space, just distal to the knuckle

3. Advance the needle alone the bone toward the palmar surface until the palmar skin begins to tent. Withdraw needle 1mm and aspirate to ensure needle tip is not in a vessel

4. Continuously inject while withdrawing the needle

5. Repeat steps 2-4 on the opposite side of the finger

6. Firmly massage the area for 30 seconds to enhance diffusion of the anesthetic
