"... rooted and built up in him and established in the faith,
just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." - Colossians 2:7
The Grove exists to come alongside families in their homeschooling journey through shared learning, community, and thoughtful instruction. From our youngest nursery and preschool students to our middle and high schoolers, we seek to support children in age-appropriate ways while honoring the home as the central place of education.
While we provide rich classroom experiences, meaningful assignments, and formative discussions, families remain the primary educators responsible for their children’s education as a whole. This partnership reflects our commitment to walking with families, not replacing them, and it looks different in practice by age and stage, with increasing responsibility placed on students and families as children grow in maturity and independence.
At The Grove, families are invited into more than participation. Together, through steady and intentional building, something deeper and lasting takes shape as a true community.
A Charlotte Mason approach is a Christian vision of education that forms the whole person through rich ideas, careful attention, and meaningful work, with the aim of cultivating wisdom, character, and a lasting love of learning. The Grove has chosen this approach to guide our shared learning, teaching practices, and community rhythms, providing a clear and coherent foundation for the classes and experiences we offer together, while honoring and respecting each family’s role as the primary educators of their children.
Families at The Grove are free to choose the educational approaches and curricula that best serve their children at home. While many are drawn to Charlotte Mason, a uniform method is not required; our fellowship is united by shared values, mutual respect, and a common commitment to thoughtful, Christ-centered formation.
The Grove’s academic life is shaped by Charlotte Mason’s philosophy, which recognizes students as whole persons—capable of attention, thought, and meaningful engagement with ideas. We emphasize rich ideas, living books, careful observation, narration, and habits that cultivate responsibility and delight in learning. Instruction takes place primarily on Thursdays and is supported by thoughtful at-home work as developmentally appropriate, with expectations increasing as students mature.
Lower School consists of children from birth - 6th grade. The focus at these ages is on nurturing habits of attention, wonder, and joyful engagement with meaningful content. Our core academic courses begin when a child is around 6 years old or in Kindergarten. There is no weekly homework schedule, though occasional simple projects may be completed at home and shared in class. Our youngest members (siblings of school-aged students)—from nursery through preschool—are welcomed into a gentle, nurturing environment that honors the pace of early childhood. Babies and toddlers are cherished members of our community, fully included in the life we share together.
Upper School is for our middle and high schoolers. They will build on the foundation from Lower School with increased responsibility, including regular outside work to meet course goals and, where applicable, academic credit expectations. Families moving forward in the application process will receive our Upper School Guide with detailed information about classes and expectations.
Thursdays are full of learning, laughter, and exploration! We start together with school-wide chapel, then head off to grade-level classes for our first morning block. After a snack and recess break to play and connect outside, students dive into a second morning block of learning with their levels. We come together again for an extended lunch and recess, and the day wraps up with optional afternoon electives where kids can explore hobbies, passions, and new interests.

*Families receive more information about daily routines, rhythms, and specific classes and offerings during the application process.
Level 1 is a season of wonder. Students are welcomed into a joyful learning community where imagination, curiosity, and delight are carefully protected. Through stories, nature study, science, music, art, and shared conversation, children begin to see the world as full of meaning and beauty.
Academically, students are immersed in rich read-alouds and hands-on exploration that invite them to observe closely, narrate simply, and create in response to what they are learning. Lessons are integrated and relational, allowing young learners to grow in confidence, attentiveness, and joy without hurry.
Level 2 is a lively and relational season of growth. Students continue exploring history, literature, and science together through rich books, hands-on learning, and shared discovery. These years are marked by curiosity, thoughtful conversation, and growing confidence as students find their voices within a joyful learning community.
Academically, students are gently introduced to deeper discussion, narration, and collaborative projects that allow them to explore ideas and create meaningful work. There is no weekly homework schedule at The Grove. Occasionally, students may complete simple at-home readings or projects that extend class learning and are shared together during our time on campus.
Level 3 is a season of strengthening. Students begin taking greater ownership of their work while still receiving clear structure and support. These years focus on building habits of consistency, perseverance, and thoughtful participation as students grow in confidence and maturity within a Christ-centered community.
Academically, students engage history, literature, and science with increasing depth through guided discussion, weekly assignments, and unit projects. Homework becomes consistent at this level, though workloads remain intentionally moderate. Students practice managing longer readings and multi-step assignments, laying the groundwork for the greater independence and responsibility expected in Upper School.
Level 4 marks a season of deepening. Students step into more meaningful academic work while growing in maturity, diligence, and ownership of their learning. These years invite young men and women to think carefully, speak thoughtfully, and engage enduring ideas with humility and discernment within a Christ-centered community.
Academically, Upper School courses are purposeful and thoughtfully designed. Students complete weekly reading and assigned work at home, participate in rich discussion, and undertake longer-term projects that require sustained effort and follow-through. Science courses include formal lab experiences and bring students face to face with the beauty, power, and purpose of God’s creation. More than simply absorbing information, students are invited into meaningful study that shapes judgment, strengthens character, and forms habits of disciplined thinking. Because we meet once per week, learning continues at home, and students are expected to manage several hours of weekly work with increasing independence.
Our Nursery is a calm and attentive space where our youngest children are known, loved, and gently cared for. We value simple rhythms, warm interaction, and a peaceful environment so that little ones feel secure while their mothers serve and learn within our community.
Babies and toddlers enjoy free play, books, simple puzzles, and nurturing attention from trusted caregivers. The atmosphere is unhurried and relational, allowing children to explore comfortably and grow in confidence at their own pace.
The Discovery Room is a sweet and gentle introduction to life at The Grove. In this warm and caring space, preschoolers are welcomed into community through storytime, song, movement, and meaningful play. We protect the unhurried rhythm of early childhood while helping children grow in confidence and belonging.
Our days include rich read-alouds, simple crafts, nature exploration, gym time, and hands-on activities that strengthen listening skills, language development, and early habits of attention. Learning happens naturally through play, imagination, and shared experience, laying a foundation for the years to come.
*Please note: Nursery and Preschool enrollment is reserved for the younger siblings of school-aged members, allowing us to support the needs of the whole family.
