Battle Over the Grid

Body Wars

Battle Over the Grid is a reskin of the former Body Wars attraction and reuses the simulators and queue space. The attraction includes several small references in the queue and the film to the previous tenant of the space.

Queue

The queue is themed to a futuristic train station and is broken up into 3 distinct zones. the first zone or the overflow queue is fairly light in details except for the occasional ding over the speakers followed by a departure or arrival announcement. The second zone is where the store really begins. The lights have turned red and announcements overhead tell guest to prepare to flee the area as renegade programs have been active in the area. The last zone sees guests pass through a scanner. whenever a guest passes through it a display connect to the scanner identifies guests as an anomaly. The lights in this zone are orange to signify the presence of Clu's soldiers. Guests are then assigned their landing pad A-D and given their 3D glasses. Guests are then instructed to watch the pre-show in order to prepare to board the lightcopters.

Pre-Show

The pre-show begins by one of Clu's analysts reassuring guests that the renegade programs are be dealt with. The pre-show then continues by showing a propaganda film about Clu freeing the Grid from the tyranny of the users and Kevin Flynn (the creator of the Grid).

After the propaganda film the analyst returns to fill us in on the lightcopter and the typical Disney safety procedures. After he finishes another program shows the analyst a tablet. He then instructs the program to inform the pilot of the lightcopter that he is to fly directly to Clu's warship. The boarding doors then open and guests are ushered aboard.

Ride Experience

The simulator pod is tricked out in lighting with orange glowing lines adorning every detail the seating however remains unchanged from Body Wars. Once guests are seated and buckled in the cast member leaves the simulator pod and the ride begins. The copter immediately takes off and then the shield is lowered. Once the shield is lowered guests get a view of the Grid as the copter continues to rise into the digital sky. Also now viewable is the pilot of the craft a generic looking program with a glowing black and orange flight suit on.

Once the copter has traveled a short distance away things begin to change all the lights in the cabin change from orange to a white. The pilot then introduces himself as Clipper a malware program sent by Kevin Flynn to spy on Clu's operations. Once he heard a group of users had been abducted he decided to break his cover in order to help us.

Kevin Flynn then contacts the copter and appears on the screen to the right of the windshield. Assures guests that Clipper can get them safely to the portal so they can exit the grid and escape Clu. Flynn then goes on to explain the Grid and how he created it.

The visuals change to become more abstract as we fly through a secrets passage Flynn installed in the outskirts of the Grid. Flynn then continues by explaining how Clu betrayed him at took over the Grid. The portal then comes into view and Flynn wishes us well.

Just as Flynn disconnects from the copter Clu's massive warship comes into view cutting of the path to the portal. Recognizers and lightjets deploy from the ship and begin shooting at the lightcopter. Clipper begins to take evasive actions in order to dodge incoming fire.

Clipper pilots the copter back towards the ground into a city in the hope of losing the attackers. Clipper navigates the city making tight turns, sudden dives, and dodging motions.

After making sharp turn around a building guests come face to face with a recognizer. The recognizer fires of light missiles at the copter. Clipper in returns fires as the copter shakes from the impact of the missiles.

After Clipper hits the bridge of recognizer a bunch of aerial soldiers deploy a wingsuit and dive towards the lightcopter. Clipper charges the copter forward and derezzes most of the soldiers with the rotor and it's blades.

Unfortunately one wingsuit soldier lands directly on the windshield and cuts up the glass with his identity disc. He proceeds to slash at the controls with his disc damaging the weapons systems before Clipper shakes him off the copter.

After getting the soldier off Clipper steers the lightcopter until it starts getting shot at again by two separate lightjets. Clipper once again takes evasive actions dodging different laser blasts and missiles. Clipper is able to separate the lightjets with one attempting to cut off the copter. He the takes the lightcopter on a straight away.

Then a lightjet appears in front of the copter charging towards the guest's vehicle. With one jet before the copter and another behind it Clipper steers the lightcopter straight towards the lightjet before him. Just before the lightcopter is going to collide with the jet He stalls the helicopter and it plummets towards the ground causing the two jets to collide and explode.

After plummeting towards the ground for a moment Clipper regains control of the lightcopter and steers it into a nearby hangar bay. He proceeds to land the aircraft and tells guests that its been an honor flying with them. He says that he's going to reactivate his disguise and attempt to return to his position spying on Clu. The shield between the guests and Clipper closes and the orange lights replace the white interior lights. Clipper then pipes in over the intercom and says that it's now safe to unbuckle their seat belt and exit the lightcopter. Heroic music swells and guests exit the craft and continue down a hallway towards the Game Grid Gear gift shop
