I can't recall where this scenario came from, nor who wrote it, but it gives a really interesting alternative game. If you can help me identify the correct author I'd be grateful, I don't like failing to attribute the work of others. One thing that does stand out is that while the original author proposed French and German forces, this could equally be played out with Russian and Austrian, or even British/Arab vs Turkish, forces
French OOB:
Divisional command stand
2 full strength infantry regiments
2 on board 75mm field gun batteries
1 Cavalry Squadron
German OOB:
1 Divisional command stand
3 full strength infantry regiments
1 half strength infantry regiment, including the MMG company stand
2 on board 77mm Field Gun batteries
2 Engineering Stands (can be attached to any regiment or allowed to operate on their own)
See the map below on this page. Here is the author's description of the battlefield. "On a 6'x4' table I split the 4 feet in half with a section of N gauge railway track. Running from the far corner to the opposite far corner the table was divided by a dirt road that also crossed the track. The road did not cross exactly through the centre of the track and should wind around a bit. On either side of the track where two hills each. Scattered among them were fields, open ground, and pockets of forests. Also the tops of the hills were covered in forests. All the forests are considered light woods. "
You are to advance and prevent any German forces from destroying the rail track and delaying valuable supplies from reaching the front or being used for the enemy's own troop movements. How you divide your forces is up to you. You can start 6" from the board edge.
You are to provide security for the Engineers to blow up the track. It will take 2 turns for the Engineers to plant the explosives and then on the Change orders phase of the 3rd turn after they have planted the explosives you can roll to blow up the tracks. Tracks are destroyed on a d6 with a roll of 2-6. If you roll a 1 re-roll the next turn. Remember the Engineers must survive or the battle is lost. German forces start on the board edge.
