Welcome to ‘The Glory Days of Electrics’, a digital exhibiton all about the electric traction in use on the British Rail network from the 1980s to the early 2000s.

This era saw the iconic British Rail brand replaced by the much more modern Intercity, Network SouthEast and Regional Railways sectors, in preparation for privatisation at the end of the 1990s.

A massive shift in the design of rolling stock took place during this era, as the 1972 based and Mk3 based EMUs, and later the Networker family, began to be phased in, and the slam door Mk1 derived stock of the previous 20 years began to be phased out.
