US 48

U.S. Route 48, also known as Corridor H, is an incomplete 4-lane highway connecting I-81/I-66 in Virginia to I-79 in West Virginia. Shown here are photos from most of the highway in the state of West Virginia.

Moorefield to Wardensville

Just after Davis, a distance sign is presented.

Although I encountered no fog this time, I can see why this sign might be needed.

Turning right will take motorists to WV 93. Going west, it runs concurrent with US 48.

The first exit here is for Bismarck.

A WV-style diamond-in-a-rectangle design for a "+" intersection.

Turning left will take you to Mt. Storm.

A very nice looking shield comes not long after.

There are plenty of these around here.

On these next guide signs, there's a gap where another control city should go.

U.S. Route 50 isn't far, actually.

That empty space used to say Forman, but the MUTCD doesn't like that, so the demountable copy was removed.

Forman to Moorefield

This truck stop exists because this used to be an end to the 4-lane road. That's not the case now, though.

Now we've changed colors to black-on-white.

Now we've entered Hardy County.

Another white sign... make up your mind!

Ah, a fractional WV "County" Route.

The only thing hopeless here is that that's an old-style way to sign this lane, and it's probably not going to last much longer.

1.5 miles and there will be another exit, this one for Moorefield.

The "55" on this sign could use replaced.

And here's the exit, a standard diamond interchange.

US 48 and WV 55 run concurrent now.

Moorefield to Wardensville

A double shield assembly that saves WVDOH another direction plate.

Freedom Way... I would put that sign closer to the actual road.

The empty space on these next few signs used to have a WV 55 shield, but don't now.

They used to because this used to be the end of the road for awhile.

You'd think a county road shield would work here, though.

Why is "State Park" so small?

Wardensville is as far as I traveled during that trip. Someday I might go into Virginia.
