History

The Pit court was created in the summer of 2000 at the residence of Chuck and Faye Giesy. Kenny King dug a flat piece of land into the bottom of the hill and Higgins Concrete poured the 65' x 42' pad. The Howell family created the Pit sign that sits on the west side of the court along what use to be the fence line. During the summer of 2004, lights were installed on the east side of the court. New hoops were installed the summer of 2010.

The Pit summer basketball camp was held at the court nearly every summer since 2003-2016. The 2nd & 3rd Annual Pit Camp were held at Bristol High School before the camp was moved back to the the Pit from 2006-2016. The camp was started by Mark & Craig Giesy to give Bristol and surrounding area kids a summer basketball camp to learn fundamentals in a competitive setting.

The Warren Tribune Newspaper has took notice of the Pit on three different occasions. The first time was an article that was printed while the 2002 Bristol Boys team played in the semi finals in Columbus. Article seen above.

The second was after past pit camper Alyssa Giesy broke the girls career scoring record at Bristol. The second article starts out, "BRISTOLVILLE - Kids growing up in Bristolville always have a place to play basketball. "The Pit" is an outdoor court, complete with lights, glass backboards ...."

The third was an article written by John Vargo on March 21, 2018 about the Bristol Boys Basketball team. Article seen below.
