Our lab is interested in understanding how the nervous system develops, and after injury how it repairs. To circumvent the complexity of the human nervous system, we are using the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism, which has 302 neurons, with well-known connectome. The ease of genetic manipulation and advantage of imaging the neurons in live animals allow us to uncover the principles of neuronal development and regeneration using this system.
We have also initiated a new project to investigate the neuroscience behind the mental health disorders in adolescent population with a broader aim to understand the plasticity of human prefrontal cortex.
