Hi, I'm Elize, and together with my husband, Matthys, we are delighted to welcome you to The Gatsby Studio.

My passion for hospitality and tourism began long before The Gatsby Studio became a reality. After school, I had the privilege of starting my career at one of South Africa’s leading hotel groups, where I learned the importance of genuine hospitality, exceptional service, and the little details that turn an ordinary stay into a memorable experience. For the past 14 years, I have been a Tourism Lecturer at a local TVET college, where I have had the opportunity to inspire and prepare future tourism professionals. One of the greatest joys of hosting is being able to bring the very principles I teach into real life every day.

Tourism has always been more than just a career for me—it's about connecting people with places, creating lasting memories, and making every guest feel truly welcome. Those values are at the heart of everything we have created at The Gatsby Studio.

Matthys comes from the construction industry and is the practical mind behind many of the improvements you'll see throughout the studio. If something needs building, repairing, or improving, he's usually the one making it happen. He has become our resident DIY expert, always looking for ways to make our guests' stay even more comfortable.

Although his career is very different from mine, my enthusiasm for tourism has certainly rubbed off on him over the years. Through countless conversations, adventures, and shared experiences, he has developed his own love for welcoming travelers from around the world. He has always been passionate about discovering different cuisines, exploring new places, and learning about diverse cultures, making hosting guests a natural extension of interests he already enjoyed.

Together, we make a wonderful team—combining hospitality, practical know-how, and a genuine love for meeting people from all walks of life. Whether you're visiting Oudtshoorn to experience the famous Cango Caves, explore the spectacular Klein Karoo, enjoy the region's wildlife and wine farms, or simply relax for a few days, we hope you'll feel completely at home here.
