After completing my BSc and MS (Fisheries) from the University of Rajshahi I joined Jessore University of Science and Technology in February 2012 as a Lecturer in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Bioscience. I came back to the University of Rajshahi in November 2012 as a Lecturer in the Department of Fisheries.
In 2015 I completed my MPhil in Conservation Biology from the University of Rajshahi. Next year, in 2016, I moved to the UK at the University of Durham to carry out my PhD on a Commonwealth Scholarship with Prof Martyn C Lucas and Prof A Rus Hoelzel where I investigated the impacts of non-native signal crayfish on native species and environments. My PhD research involved a wide range of techniques including behaviour assessments, tagging and marking, classical mesocosm, stable isotope analysis, electrofishing and others.
In Bangladesh my research primarily focuses on the abundance and richness of aquatic fauna, especially fishes, in freshwater environments. In addition, I am also interested in aquatic invasive species and their impacts on native species and ecosystem. Currently I use various multivariate statistics in my research to better understand and explain the study outcome.
I am married to Alima Afrin (Kheya) since May 2015. Our daughter, Adrita, was born in December 2018 and our son, Souhardo, was born in Sepetember 2020.
