#23. Needle - (Various Episodes)

Now this is the second of the character entries. And this one is for Needle. This is probably another contravertial pick. Since most people can't remember her doing anything at all. And while you are mostly right. There have been a few times Needle has spoken. Has she even done anything interesting? I know most people are questioning me right now.

"THAT'S the person you choose to single out as one of the funniest conestants in the history of BFDI? Seriously? Literally all she did was get mad whenever someone called her "Needy"

"Don't call me Needy"

Nope, not that. In fact, that isn't even close to what I wanted to write about her. Because she is another case of a contestant who has a lot of really good underrated scenes. Needle's comedic moments are like few and far between, like a needle in a haystack. She may not have been BFDI's biggest character, but in the moments she is featured in, are some of the funniest subtle moments in the show. I have looked carefully at the moments she is featured. And found three epic moments which really should deserve some more recognition.

So here are the three underrated moments that deserve a spot on this list.

I'm ovbously not counting any articles done so far, so "I can slap too" won't be on this article.

Underrated moment #1: Needle Causes Drama

Right from the first episode, our true introduction to Needle is nothing short of spectacular. Her first real intreaction with anyone starts here. So a little background is needed to understand what goes down. Back in the early episodes of BFDI. Romance used to be a thing. Yes, objects were shipped before any of you had the chance. There have been a few pseudoships that emerged throughout the show. But they came from the audience.

Firey and Leafy

Coiny and Pin

Then there were some implied ships. Ones that were never explicitly said, but there was certainly something more scripted into the series that never came through during the edit. Some examples of those include:

Tennis Ball and Golf Ball

Match and Firey

But none were actually real ships that Michael and Cary were actively trying to push. The only exception was back in the very first episode. It was a very weird exchange between three of the most random contestants to be paired up in BFDI history. Featuring:

Snowball: The Jock.
Coiny: The Nerd.
Needle: The girl with loose laurels.

And all the sudden, the most bizzare love triangle in animation history takes it's roots. Even if it was for one minute, that one minute was awesome.

It all gets kicked off when it's time to pick the teams. And after Needle is chosen, it's her turn to make a suggestion.

"How about Snowball?"

That's when we get introduced to another side character in this love triangle.

Blocky: The Wingman

"Oh yeah, they're in love!"

SEXUAL PELVIC THRUST

This is where Needle says a dumb thing. This is where she starts the drama with a simple sentence.

"No, Blocky. I like Coiny more!"

*Gasp*

*GASP*

Ooooh, the drama ensues.

"Uh oh"

"Did you just say that?"

"I didn't mean to!"

Wow. That is some top quality entertainment. The drama was so gripping and had me at the edge of my seat. There will never be a moment just like this. This is truly some of the best television I have ever seen.

*windy growling noises*

"Guys, settle down"

"Why don't we pick Coiny since Needle likes him more!"

"Look, I'm sorry, is it really that big of a deal?"

Aparrently so. I wouldn't try and question the logic of Snowball. That guy is insane.

Another thing that makes this love triangle so much better is because there is NO CONTINUATION WHATSOEVER! There is so much coverage of this moment and it appears that a massive storyline is being set up. The quarrels of this love triangle will be one of the main drivers of the season. But NOPE, the writers pull the rug out from under us and decide instead to completley ignore this massive plotpoint. After that day, I'm not even sure Snowball and Needle even speak again. The audience gets one moment of intense drama and then it's forgotten like it never happened.

DRAMA TIME

The Cherry on top of this amazing plotline is that instead of a cingey romance between Snowball and Needle, or Needle and Coiny. (Most likely due to Needle being eliminated in episode 7) Coiny and Snowball just turned into best friends in the game.

I think that is all I can really say about Needle's first moment. I'll move on to the second.

Underrated moment #2: Needle's Cake

It's the baking challenge, and for Needle this means only one thing. It's time for her to screw things up. This moment is certainly a lot smaller than the first, but the buildup for it is short and sweet.

And what is she using? A lot of yeast.

That's it, that's the whole joke. Needle being the dumb one she is, somehow filling a nine hundred litre bowl with yeast is up there with some of the best screenshots in all of BFDI.

How to impress your family

Yeah, there isn't much more to this entry other than some small stuff about her creating a star and causing a global windstorm. I'm going to be completley honest. I didn't find it that funny. Yes it lead to a legendary argument, but it wasn't worth re-including. It means that the setup to the joke was actually a bit funnier than the punchline. And it was probably one of their best setups though.

That's because there isn't really any need for one. All there is to know is Needle is going to unintentionally screw herself and probably the rest of the world over.

There is no buildup at all to the scene. And then bam, we are introduced to one of the funniest images in the entire show.

Underrated Moment #3: The Sass Factor

This event takes place all the way deep into BFDIA. Our resident drama queen is still doing the typical things.

Slapping people

Being pretty

Participating in a peaceful protest

But none of these moments even compare to what is about to happen next. So during the middle of episode five, Needle gets burned alive. And it's time to recover her.

"Hurray. Lets go!"

"Finally, they're gone!"

"NEEDLE"

And this next part is what I love about Needle. Even though the dialogue is pretty average. She manages to chew the lines she is given. Most notably when the WOAH Bunch starts their hike. Needle has this to say. And although I can't perfectly capture just how awesome she sounds. I'll try my best with the text formatting I'm given.

"I think SOMEONE needs to Apologize"

"I'MSORRYNEEDLE"

"THANK yoouu"

Hands on hips

"Whuddaboumeapologizetome... Itwasverypainful"

"Life is FULL of pain"

There is no feasable way to actually pinpoint what makes this so good. But Needle's unique way of speaking and her body language absolutley kill it. No one could have made those lines as funny as they were.

Unfortunatley, that is all I have for Needle. But these were three awesome moments I couldn't have left without mentioning. Hopefully, I have convinced you that Needle is a underrated contestant. And that next time she is on screen, pay close attention to what she is doing. Usually it's something stupid, but its guaranteed to be entertaining.

P.P.S. I couldn't leave this countdown without mentioning this very tiny, but awesome little moment in the show.

Needle: Slaps Pansexually

Consider this your bonus Needle moment.

P.P.P.S. It has also come to my attention, somehow I didn't notice this piece of information. But Needle's stereotype was to be the dumb hot girl. And that completley flew over my head. Although considering how she acted. From being sassy, to being the centerpoint of drama on the Squashy Grapes. Also something to note is that she's the skinniest contestant the show has ever had, so her stereotype was probably not unintentional.

Another thing that lines up perfectly with her was how she was known as the slapper. Certainly fits in with her stereotype.

I'm honestly surprised I never picked up on this before. It was painfully obvious and yet, since I had never looked at Needle in depth. That fact just passed over my head. Thankfully, I caught it before the article was finished.

P.P.P.P.S. I actually did find another moment where Snowball and Needle actually interacted. And it's the scene where sher mercilesly pushes Snowball into a pit and cause him to lose the challenge.

"Does this mean Friday night is canceled?"

P.P.P.P.P.S. Aparrently Needle and Coiny's showmance was the superieor option. As they managed to make it into the recommended characters roster all the way back in BFDI.

P.P.P.P.P.P.S. During the writing process of this article, I asked you guys to come up with as many photoshops of Needle, Snowball, and Coiny to be photoshopped in the place of main characters in love-triangle movies. Because there is only one way to honour the most messed up plotline in BFDI history, and that is with equally messed up pieces.
