The Maul seeks to publish artists under the age of fifteen (fifteen and older may submit to The Maul, provided their parents are able to sign their contract on the author's behalf) on this site. We are willing to look at art and fiction, and if it meets our criteria, we will publish one story per reading period. See The Maul's website for reading period dates.

Publication in The Food Court is compensated in two ways. First, we add your name to a mailing list (optional) with premium content containing tips for young writers. Second, you will receive merchandise equal to 3 cents per word for your story (also optional). We do not sign contracts for stories published in The Food Court
The criteria for acceptance are – For fiction, it must be original, grammatically sound, creative, enjoyable to read, and over 100 words. For art, it must feature something from the speculative genre (horror, scifi, fantasy, etc), original, and it must be novel or inventive in some way. All eligible stories will be considers
Should you win but still decide you want to hold onto your piece and submit it to publications that pay 8 cents a word or higher, we will still edit your work and offer you access to our video archive.
There will not be a contract to sign. Your work is published at your own volition. At any time, should you want your story removed from the site, just send us an email.
The Food Court will not be made available as an anthology, or printed for sale. We reserve the right to use images and quotes in any marketing and/or advertising.
