I first started playing New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii with my family when I was very young. We'd constantly go through levels together and mess with each other while playing for hours at a time. Sometime during 2021-2022, I watched a lot of different Gacha Life reaction videos, and I saw this video titled "Super Mario reacts to Game Theory [Part 1?]" that piqued my interest. I loved the games that I played and watched Matpat frequently, so I instantly clicked on the video. In the present day, my family and I play a variety of Mario and Nintendo games, Minecraft, Animal Crossing, and more on the Nintendo Switch, as well as a couple of games on the original Nintendo. Sadly, the YouTube video listed below is no longer available.
When the Super Mario Bros. Movie came out in 2023, it was like the fandom reawakened. The amount of fan art, fanfiction, merchandise, etc. that I've seen surrounding it has been absolutely insane in the best way. The movie was very funny, and I enjoyed it a lot, as I even got to go to Super Nintendo World when I was on vacation in California, which just made everything better!
In 4th grade, my twin and I were obsessed with anything related to MLP: FiM (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic), and even had Rainbow Dash hoodies. It was one of our biggest hyper-fixations at the time, and I remember us constantly singing the songs from the MLP: EG (My Little Pony: Equestria Girls) movies anywhere we could. I rewatched all of the movies a few months ago, and I'd have to say that Rainbow Rocks is my favorite.
Now: Over the past few months, I've been rewatching the show on Netflix, and it's been great! I've also been watching some of the MLP: EG specials (they take place after Legend of Everfree) with my friend Giselle at her house, and I've enjoyed the ones I've seen so far.
Backstory: I'll admit that when I first watched the Trolls movie with my cousins at my grandma's house, I wasn't that into it. The plot was pretty simple, the songs were subpar. Only Branch was really fleshed out by the end of the movie, and I just thought Poppy seemed like too much and annoying. A few years later, I watched the second installment, named Trolls: World Tour, with my parents and siblings, and my opinion on Poppy changed a lot. The songs and overarching plot have definitely improved a ton from the first movie, but I was a bit disappointed that there weren't many emotional stakes. When I first saw the third movie, I loved everything about it. I especially liked seeing the different relationship dynamics: Branch and his older brothers, pop-star siblings Velvet and Veneer, and Poppy and her sister Viva. I also liked the emotional stakes of having to reform the band to save Floyd. I do wonder where Floyd was before he got captured, though. Branch and Poppy's relationship is also very cute!
Now: I recently watched both of the Trolls holiday specials and rewatched Trolls 2 and 3 because I'm currently working on a couple animatics so I can get back into making them, as I stopped a few months ago because of school and mental health reasons. Rewatching the specials and movies gave me quite a few ideas and I hope to at least finish some of the thumbnails and storyboards for the first few scenes over the summer since I'll have more time for that outside of my summer classes. I still have to get the color swatches for Broppy and friends, and I also have to work on the script some more.
