Extended Project Qualification (Year 13)

The Extended Project Qualification offered with A-level demands, with the relative value of an AS qualification. The A* grade is available! It is delivered in the place of Research Studies in Y13.

We follow the AQA EPQ Qualification, the two main documents that we use in the delivery of the EPQ are downloadable below. You will need a copy of the Candidate Record Form (which we commonly refer to as the Log) saved with your name on it.

Work to do 2022-2023 Students

The starting point over your summer holidays is to complete the online course provided by The University of Southampton:

https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/research-project

You will then need to begin to assemble your research on your chosen area of study. Over the summer holidays you should seek as many research sources as you can, and make notes on those, to develop your understanding of your research project. Its probably a good idea to get at least 7 to 10 sources together over the Summer period, read them, make some notes and see if you can compare and contrast their information.

If you wanted an additional course to look at there is also this one from Bath University: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/epq-success

EPQ Curriculum Plan - What we do when, and why we do it!

Guidance #1 - The Record of Initial Planning

In the first box you should really aim to look at the general area of interest that your EPQ is on. Don't try and be too specific at this point, as you need to demonstrate how your ideas develop. In the first box its quite a positive move to explain your motivation or rationale for the research. This may be based upon a personal interest or experience which has led you to this, or a long term academic or career aim, or something else!

Moving on, your plan will be to produce a 5000 word essay, and you should really make reference to your initial source - the book or documentary that you may have seen that got you started. It may be prudent to mention one or two other sources that support your initial key source. At this point you will need to get the feedback from your supervisor. When you have this meeting make sure that you write it down (make a note) of what is said as you need every point! Then you can explain in the bottom box how you're going to modify your plans and then do some more research.
