If you are like many of us, you often find yourself with nothing to spend your time doing this quarantine. Eating, playing video games, and cooking are some of the many activities that others have started to engage in, but of course, each activity loses its charm after a while. I am no stranger to such a predicament, as I began wondering if there is nothing else entertaining to watch or see anymore, until one Saturday night.
I was simply sitting on my living room sofa, bored as usual, and I could not help but wonder if I have reached the dead end of enjoyment. I started to ponder not only the lack of entertainment in my life, but how I have wasted everything I have done in the past to make my life easy, only to run out of things to do! Pacing back and forth from the kitchen to the living room, I could not help but desire an answer to my difficult question. As if pondering for hours was not enough, I started to panic, as everyone around me was engaging in some sort of fun activity and enhancing their skills.
Thinking I had nowhere else to turn to be like the others, a sudden thought struck me, as I stood in my kitchen noticing the London magnet on my refrigerator in the short distance. Like an eagle who has caught the presence of their prey, this one magnet would be the key to fulfilling my hunger. There was only one thing left to do, execute the plan with many steps, a plan that had manifested rapidly once the ever so simple and unaware magnet caught my eye once more.
I ran upstairs to my room, fetched my iPad, and knew the gold was not far out of arm's reach. All that was left to do is open the Youtube app, and type into the search bar: “London, city view, 1 hour.” I jumped up in excitement, and passionately stated, “Eureka!” Tens of hundreds of videos came to the screen, and I had solved my problem ever so easily.
Then, like rapid fire, more cities came to mind, and I yelled, “Shibuya, Manhattan, Paris!” I struck gold! Like a mad scientist who had found their answer, I held the power to solving a problem that many people had faced, and I wondered how much profit could possibly be made with this.
But then, the London magnet had helped me once more, and I recalled my British Grandma advising me, many years, ago, to pass on the kindness I held in my heart. I could not bear to ignore my dear grandma’s advice, as her voice echoed in my ears. I could not suppress the power that these videos had to cure one of the many problems in a teenager’s life: boredom.
Therefore, I will fulfill my grandma’s wish to share my kindness, and will now title the videos that helped cure my boredom, in a way that surely is not a waste of time, of course!
The videos: “[4K] Shibuya Crossing at night in Tokyo Japan 4k landscape -1 Hour Fixed Angle Video,” “[10 Hours] Manhattan, NY Evening Time Lapse - Video & Audio [1080HD] SlowTV,” “Paris at Night, City view, 1 hour video (4K),” and my favorite, “City View day - - Relaxing Video w/City Sounds.” All of these ever so simple yet engaging pieces of cinematography helped me spend my days doing something way more enlightening, and I ask you to simply join me, so that we can one day cure each person’s boredom, together.

Hello students of Elmont! As you all know, the coronavirus outbreak has for the past three months forced us into our homes and caused us to have to embrace remote learning. Digital classrooms, meetings, and work. Thankfully, school is closing in mid June so you won’t have to worry about
work or assignments again until September- or will you? That’s right, school won’t actually be over because we’ll be in summer school. The school administration thought it best for students to remain in school after it “closes.” No one can leave their homes which makes it more convenient. And since Regents were cancelled, summer school will ensure that nothing taught from this school year is lost.
The summer school schedule will be a little more flexible than regular school however; school will start at 9AM and end at 1PM. It will consist of Math, Science, English, History and Language classes. The lessons will be brief, just to make sure students don’t forget all that they’ve learned, and homework will be minimized. There are slight drawbacks though: for one thing, students will be required to show their faces during every class without exception. Also, the summer school grading system will be treated the same way report cards are now. At the end of this school, it will count as a 5th marking period to make up for regents and lost time.
Summer school is scheduled to start around the end of June and will proceed until August. All hope isn’t lost because there is the option to opt out of summer school all together - just be prepared to have a parent/guardian sign, as well as submitting a ten page essay as to why you don’t need summer school. This will also have to include all report cards from these past four marking periods, and not to mention at least two teachers’ recommendations. On top of all of those requirements, the forms must be submitted no later than June 14th, so you’ll have to act fast! If you manage to make it out of summer school, consider yourself one of the lucky ones.
If not, see you in class!
