The Division School Paper Contest (DSPC) will be held at Winner National High School, this March 9-11, 2023. It has been awaited by many student journalists to finally be able to join the said contest face-to-face, since the pandemic started this year 2020 due to Covid-19. We are adjusting to the new normal to make events like this possible.
The DSPC covers individual, group, and collaborative contests that would practice and enhance the skills of the student journalists Mobile Journalism being one of the individual contests in which student journalists write articles and record themselves as they are reporting. TV Broadcasting is one of the group contests wherein student journalists write and report news. Online publishing is one of the categories under the collaborative contests. It is open to write different types of articles namely news, feature, sports, editorial, and sci-tech. These are just some of the contests student journalists can join. The contests' purpose is not only to choose the best student journalists that would provide a wide-range of knowledge, but to give importance on the spread of knowledgeable truth
Most of the student journalists that are going to compete in various competitions already have experiences in writing or have attended seminars regarding writing an article, that makes it their advantage. For the student journalists that have no experience or have only a few knowledge in writing, a short seminar for the writing guidelines is discussed before the contest start to prepare them before the big event. Joining the DSPC will help them practice and enhance their writing skills through the means of strengthening their knowledge in this field
DSPCs temporarily stopped during the pandemic decreasing the excitement and competitiveness of the student journalists considering that they will be having a break in doing their works which could result to their inconsistency in their performance. But this does not hinder them from being open in learning more about the principles of writing an article. That's why as the DSPC was announced to happen face-to-face, many students wanted to try and test it for themselves. As we are still adjusting to the new normal, safety protocols were mandated by the school and the facilitators to provide safety and prevent the spread of diseases.
The DSPC will improve the writing skills of the student journalists and help them produce well-written school papers. The contest taking place physically will monitor the student journalists performance more, but will put their health at risk unless they follow the safety protocols. With these in mind, DSPC happening physically is a bonus in contributing to the betterment of producing aspiring writers.
