The Internet’s Role in Shaping Youth Perspectives on Palestine

The younger generation is becoming significantly more pro-Palestinian following the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. And social media has played a large factor in why. ecent statistics have shed light on a change, in the viewpoints held by generations when it comes to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. According to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, American Millennials and Gen Z individuals are increasingly inclined to favor the side of the conflict compared to age groups.

Biden and the Muslim Vote

With the recent events in Gaza and the Biden’s administration’s response. Muslim and Arab voters are in large numbers turning away from Biden. There are 3.5 million Muslims live in the United States as of 2017 with at least 71% of Muslim Americans are registered to vote. A poll from Emgage, a Muslim-American Civic Engagement organization, conducted a study revealing only 5% of Muslim and Arab Americans say they plan to Vote for Biden in the 2024 presidential election, which is a significant decrease from the 86% who supported him after he won the presidency in 2020. This may have set Biden up for failure in many key swing states.

Rise of Islamophobia in Light of the War

On November 8th during the GOP Presidential Debates, candidate Ron DeSantis criticized President Biden’s efforts to fight “so-called Islamophobia” in light of the Israel-Hamas conflict. A “so-called Islamophobia” that led a landlord to stab 6-year-old Palestinian boy Wadea Al Fayoume to death and the boy’s mother Hanaan Shahin so severely she could not attend the funeral.

A Truce is Not a Ceasefire.

After Hamas’ attack on Israel with the deaths of 1,200 Israelis, Israel invaded northern Gaza, killing more than 15,000 Palestinians. As of the 22nd of November, Qatar announces that Hamas and Israel have come to a truce. However, this truce does not ensure an end to the war.

Navigating the Controversy: Rashida Tlaib and the Dynamics of Censure

On November 7th the U.S. House of Representatives decided to censure Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), a member of Congress. This move has generated controversy, as it is seen by critics as an attempt to stifle the voice of the American representative in Congress. Tlaib, known for her support for Palestine, faced censure due to her remarks regarding the Israel Palestine conflict.

On October 7th, Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, attacked Israel by land and air, killing 1,400 Israelis. The deaths of these Israelis are tragic, having led to a war declared by Israel, but what’s with pro-Palestinian demonstrators yelling “Free Palestine!” across the world? Interview with Fatima Iqbal Zubair

On October 14th the High School Democrats of America Muslim Caucus Spoke with Fatima Iqbal Zubair. She is the current Progressive Caucus Chair of the California Democratic Party and ran for the California State Assembly to represent District 65. In her first run in 2020 she was notably endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. She ran again in 2022, and although she wasn’t successful in either run, she has remained a dedicated public servant. Here, Fatima speaks about her experiences running for office and public advocacy. As well as how being a Muslim Woman and a first generation immigrant have affected her work and decision-making.
