Frequently Asked Questions
Are all hogs sold in the sale CA Prop 12 compliant?
Yes!
How will the hogs, goats and lambs be sold at The County Sale?
They will be sold in a live auction format. Our auctioneer will run the bidding on each individual lot and guide/capture bid amounts until there are no more bids and the highest bidder is determined for that lot. Highest bidder wins the purchase for the animal.
How will we be bidding at the sale?
At check-in the day of the sale, a bidding number and paddle will be given to each youth bidder
What will the starting bid be for each lot during the live auction?
Hogs - $500 … with auctioneer determined increment increases for each bid on the lot there after
Goats - $425/$500 for Wethers and $500 for Does … with auctioneer determined increment increases for each bid on the lot there after
Lambs - $500-$700 … with auctioneer determined increment increases for each bid on the lot there after
Why should you pre-register for this sale?
This will help all the breeders involved to bring the appropriate amount of pigs, goats and lambs to the auction so each kid registered will have at least one animal to bid on. We believe this will keep prices low and reasonable for all buyers at the sale.
You are not required to pre-register -- you can register day of at the sale as well.
Why are the breeders changing the way they have always sold their animals to the kids?
We feel we can give our customers a better selection of animals to choose from by joining forces - more options and choices. We also feel this gives each kid a chance to go after the animal they really want as their first choice by bidding on it.
What were the average prices for the 2025 sale?
The average hog prices were going between $500 and $650
The average goat prices were going between $425 and $550
Will there be a sale catalog available to view the sale lots prior to the sale again this year?
YES! We are planning on having the catalog available to view the Friday prior to the sale.
What if we were not successful in buying an animal out of the live auction but still need one?
Please come speak to one of the breeders at the conclusion of the sale.
When and how should purchased animals be paid for?
All animals are to be paid for before leaving the day of the sale
Methods of accepted payment: Cash or Personal Check with a valid driver’s license number
**Vieira Farms + Checkerboard Farms ONLY - Venmo is also accepted
Payment will be paid in full to each individual consigner if a buyer purchases from multiple consignors at the sale. So if you plan to purchase multiple animals using a check, please bring several checks to ensure you are able to write a separate check to each consigner you purchase from.
Example: A buyer purchases Hog A from “Breeder A” and Hog B from “Breeder B” in the sale. At the conclusion of the sale the buyer will make two separate payments, the purchase price of Hog A to “Breeder A” and the purchase price of Hog B to “Breeder B”.
