The Colosseum

The fascinating past and lasting legacy of The Colosseum are explored in my Curated Content Capstone Project Website, with an emphasis on the monument's significance in the context of the Roman Empire and its ongoing influence on history, art, and culture. The website will be separated into five subcategories, each of which will offer thorough insight on various components of this popular site. The website is also going to offer images for each of the categories, in order for the viewer to get a better understanding of this amazing arena’s complexities. The five subcategories are: The Roman Empire, Historical Background, Architecture, Modern Day Relevance, and About Me.

The Colosseum, an iconic symbol of ancient Rome, was a massive amphitheater built over 2,000 years ago. Initially known as the Flavian Amphitheater, it was constructed by the Flavian dynasty emperors, Vespasian and Titus. This grand structure could hold over 50,000 spectators and hosted various events, including gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, and theatrical performances. Despite its name, which refers to the nearby Colossus of Nero, the Colosseum remains one of the most visited and recognizable landmarks in the world today, showcasing the architectural brilliance and cultural significance of ancient Rome.
