CODICES AS CONFLUENCIA

Cross-Classroom Exchanges

Mission of the project

"The story is the storehouse of justice."

- Dr. Alexis Pauline Gumbs

The power of a people is in their words. To destroy a people, the Spanish conquistadors burned the scholarly writing (codices) of the Aztec and Maya civilizations. We revisit these texts, these storehouses, to inform the construction of our own.

We heal through creation. Here, you may explore the results of an exchange between students in Nuevo Leon, Mexico and California, U.S. who collaborated on their own co-created codex of personal writing and illustration.

History of the Codex

STUDENT CODICES
