The role of a teacher is to facilitate conversation, provide guidance, and be genuine in their interactions with their students. Teachers should acknowledge their role as an authority figure, but put power within their student's hands through choice, asking for their insight, or giving them responsibilities around the classroom.
Concepts and skills taught in the classroom should serve a function in other settings. Similarly, a lesson's purpose should go beyond academics. It should spark wonder, challenge their thinking, and foster their morality. Above all, we cannot only nurture their minds, but their hearts as well. Teachers should not view a student as another data point, but as a human.
