For our first class this Fall, we will begin with The Sermon on the Mount. In The Chosen, the Sermon on the Mount is covered at the end of Season 2 and the beginning of Season 3. A video including the lead-up to the Sermon is below.
While the Bible does not name the exact location, the traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount is a hill on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee known as the Mount of Beatitudes.
The Mount of Beatitudes is located between the ancient towns of Capernaum and Tabgha. Christian pilgrims have venerated this specific location since at least the 4th century. Its gentle slopes and natural "amphitheater" shape make it an ideal place for a large crowd to gather and listen to a speaker. Today, the beautiful, octagonal Church of the Beatitudes, built in 1938, sits atop the hill, offering a panoramic view of the sea.
